Since the theme of the past post of my my story have been about my future career, fashion, and magazines. I thought I would make a magazine cover for my haiku exercise. This is the first thing I have ever made using photoshop. I want to tell you about the elements the magazine cover represents for my career path and how it relates to Ulmer's idea of a haiku.
The title of the magazine is called Moment. I chose this because in fashion people will refer to a look or outfit as a "moment." For example, you might here someone say, " I want to a red lip moment." Just like you have a moment in time, you have a moment in fashion. A moment that you can be whoever you want to be because of what you are wearing. Moment is a keyword in the fashion industry, so I thought it was relevant for the title of this magazine.
The picture chosen for the cover has symbolic meaning. Although, it is a picture off the internet and not one of my own, the way I have this is my interpretation. I originally wanted a mirror for the cover because I wanted to show the relation between vanity and reality. I ended up finding this great picture of woman wearing a stylish outfit with the mirror in the place of his face. Yet, you can see right through it. Most people think fashion in vain and that it is all about your looks, but this is where I think people are wrong. Fashion is not all about vanity. It is a form of art. There are avant guard pieces that are the inspiration for the ready to wear. Those ready to wear are then bought by consumers. Those ready to wear become an interpretation of the avant guard. Fashion is truly what you see and how you choose to see it. Just like looking in a mirror.
The words on the cover are for advertising. They are what make people want to read there magazine. The have highlights that will be attractive for most audiences. They usually have a touching heartfelt story or have some way to better yourself. They are telling you what you should buy or what songs you should listen too. But the fashion industry is ran because of making, selling, and buying. Without those elements no one could make a living. From the designers, stores, and the magazines. They each play are key role. They each have to BUY, MAKE, & SELL.
